We Googled 'Interior Designer Indianapolis'
Here's What We Found
Here’s the truth: we’ve been working behind the scenes to show up better when you Google us.
If y’all search ‘Interior Designer Indianapolis’ or ‘Central Indiana Design’ or ‘Indiana Custom Homes,’ we want to come up on the first page. And if you add ‘Colorful’ or ‘Fun’ or just ‘Best!’, we’d love to be right there on the first page. If we are? That’s a win, and we’ll be popping the champagne.
Here’s another truth: when we search ‘Indianapolis Interior Designer’ right now, we see a sea of gray. So much white. So many monochrome interiors that we feel a little sad for your friends and family across Indianapolis and Central Indiana (yes, we’re saying the keywords). Because they might think that’s all the design world has to offer.
It’s not.
We are based in Bloomington, but work throughout Indiana and beyond. Really! We’ve designed homes all over the Midwest, as far as LA and North Carolina and Denver and NYC. Indianapolis feels like our backyard.
We’re a team of six women trained in both architecture and interior design, working every day to create homes that favor history, warmth, and artistry over oversized footprints and trendy finishes. We want to see the world filled with homes that share the best qualities of our favorite humans: depth, texture, intrigue, light (and lightness), color, whimsy, and warmth.
We like to say this: if you are looking for a je ne sais quoi in the vast world of home design–that special something you can't quite put your finger on but makes a house feel warm, inviting, and special—we’ll be a good fit. We do design differently.
So with this [first, in a long long while] blog post, let’s talk about one of the most obvious ways a SYH home stands out: color.
Yes, it’s having a moment. Despite the grayscale search results for “Indianapolis Interior Designers”, our curated feeds and favorite showrooms — especially at High Point — are bursting with saturated hues, grandmillennial pattern play, and something bold called “color drenching.” We love it. We want more of it in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Central Indiana.
If you’ve experienced color trauma or have just a little hesitation you can tiptoe in. Here’s how:
Leave the walls and ceiling white, and make the architectural elements neutral:
Bring the color outside, inside:
Commit to one powerful statement element:
(Hot tip: you might give the lonely statement element - like a green island in an all-white kitchen - some like-minded friends, like yellow sconces and red rug.)
If you’re feeling a bit bolder, make your sofa pink:
Or yellow:
Or orange:
Paint the insides of your closets:
And choose tile with the color wheel in your back pocket:
If you are tired of the same ol’, same ol’, longing for an infusion of energy, we say go all in. Fixtures, walls, tile, furniture. It’s just decorating.
Color isn’t the only way to add whimsy and interest to your home. And to be fair, monochromatic neutrals don’t have to be boring (if done right, they can sing). We’ll talk more about that in future posts—because yes, we’re blogging again! Google likes it, and we like having a place to share what’s on our minds.
