Knock Down the Walls

Moving to Bloomington from Boulder, CO, this family of five scored a fixer-upper of a colonial on a very desirable street right in the heart of town. They knew it needed work—more than just a facelift—so they hired SYH before they even closed on the house. We got them going with the fresh and elegant but still family-friendly aesthetic, the spacious and open layout, the cabinet and window wall design, and the first floor lighting plan; and then? We sent them in the right direction for all the rest - the details they then executed with the help of builder Loren Wood and cabinet maker Roman Stoll, with the occasional SYH consult when necessary. It's the quintessential Everything But the Details project. Beyond completely gutting the kitchen, the makeover updated the downstairs powder room and laundry/mudroom, eliminated two load bearing walls, expanded doorways and windows, refinished floors upstairs and down, and wired and placed new electric throughout the public spaces.
