Design Assistant

Laura has always loved homes. As a child, she could recall the floor plans and furniture layouts of every space she visited, quietly cataloging how each one felt and why — an instinct that never left her, even through an eight-year detour directing middle school band. A Baylor grad and Texas native, she brings curiosity and a genuine love of learning to everything she does. After swapping the conductor's baton for a tape measure, she built her foundation in residential design through online coursework and professional roles in Texas and Indianapolis, developing her skills as well as a deep appreciation for the design process. This serves her well as a member of the design team at SYH, where she works on every phase of a project, contributing to everything from CAD and SketchUp to product sourcing and finish specification. Laura is drawn to natural materials, colorful palettes, and interiors that feel collected, personal, and deeply livable. She has long dreamt of building thoughtful, affordable, midmod homes that feel as if they've always been there. Outside the studio, Laura can be found gardening, walking her dog Kirby, or sketching out plans for future homes. A proud IU alum, her husband has always called Bloomington "the promised land." The two of them, plus Kirby, are glad to be here at last.
